Mumbai’s luxury sweep

priyanka Yippee! Mumbai’s in for a big chunk of good news. (As published in Times of India)

It’s going to do the highest amount of business in the last quarter of this year than it did in the rest. Here’s why: Govt run Fashion and Design Promotion Council has opted for Mumbai over Delhi to host luxury event ‘Luxurion World’ in mid-Aug’09. Also, kicking off the second year of Inida Couture Week in Mumbai, Delhi-based Fashion Design Council of India is busy negotiating the final round of talks with title sponsor Sunny Dewan.

Vijay K Singh, CEO of FDPC confirmed saying, “Yes, we are all set to host a luxurious, by-invitation-only, high profile event called ‘Luxurion World’ in Mumbai from Aug 14, 15 and 16. This event has been organised in association with Maharashtra Economic Development Council.”

Meanwhile, Sunil Sethi, President of FDCI affirmed, “We are finalising our dates to announce second year of India Couture Week in Mumbai which will be held in September this year. Last year, we did good business by bringing together India’s best couturiers at a single platform. Thus, this year too, we are going ahead with the same. It’s only the dates of monsoons and Ganesh Utsav in Mumbai that will aid in the final dates.”

Incidentally, this is the the second time where FDCI will host a show in Mumbai while this will be the very first time where FDPC will be involved directly with an event in Mumbai. Incidentally, both have luxury as its prime platform. As TOI

Make way for white this summer

Fashionistas have long proclaimed that you can never go wrong with black.

kunal The LBD (li’l black number) has never, and will never, go out of style. But now, it’s sure got stiff competition from the opposite member of its colour family — white. Be it because of the summer heat, or the spring in one’s step because of Spring, but white is overtaking its dark cousin and becoming the fashionable colour of the season. While whites and pastel shades have always been popular as ‘summer colours’, what’s new this time around is that people are not just donning white during the day, but at night too. No, it’s not just a brunch colour anymore, it’s the uber cool shade of Mumbai’s nightlife!

Take glam dolls Dia Mirza and Genelia D’Souza, for instance, who were seen wearing a chic white dress and white pants with a white blouse at recent late-evening events. What’s more, it’s not just the women, the men are donning the safedi ki chamak with elan too! There was the ever-stylish industrialist Yash Birla who dazzled in all-white at his recent do and even Kunal Kapoor showed off a casual white kurta teemed with a white gunjee and white pants with flair.

Designer Anamika Khanna feels white is a “chic” and “interesting” colour to sport in the night, for white attire can be accessorised to the tee. “You can go all white, and then accessorise with long necklaces, pearls, metallic jewellery, black, or even tribal stones like corals and turquoise. On the other hand, clean white also looks very classy,” says Anamika. Designer Gayatri Khanna feels white is the perfect colour for the sweltering summer of Mumbai, with its cooling, calming effect. “In the daytime, white can be accessorised with wooden beads or silver and for a more formal look at night, it can be teamed with black, gold or diamonds,” advices Gayatri. White has always been a universal colour, now it’s time to glamourise it a bit, up its oomph quotient and flaunt it when its dark outside. Go ahead, be white tonight!

Kareena is the best muse a stylist can get

If Kareena’s look in Tashan wasn’t quite glam, the upcoming Kambakkht Ishq will see the actress ooze loads of oomph and style.

kareena kapoor According to designer Aki Narula, it took many months of research to create the right look for Bebo. “While working on Kareena’s international look, I also had to keep in mind the fashion trends and forecasts for summer 2009 since the movie releases around that time. I also made Kareena try all the clothes I picked up for her before shooting started. So, she knew exactly what to wear for different shots,” says Aki.

In Kambakkht Ishq, Kareena will wear a number of short dresses with a great deal of mismatch. “I’ve used colour blocking to create a clean, trendy and ultra-stylish look. In addition, there are 52 pairs of footwear with five-inch heels that Kareena has worn in the movie. There are also bags in colours like yellow and purple,” says Aki.

Ask him how Kareena would score over the other two actresses — Amrita Rao and Denise Richards — who also have glamorous roles in the movie, and Aki says, “With her attitude and screen presence, Kareena will definitely outshine the others. Besides, she’s very glamorous herself and very comfortably carried off the style I created for her. This will be Bollywood’s most stylish film ever,” says Aki. The stylist has worked with Kareena in the past and says she’s a great co-worker. “Kareena is very hard-working and spent 18 hours trying on all her outfits. She gives her stylist a lot of creative freedom and is the best muse anyone can get,” says Aki.
